FRONT&CENTRE SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES
Each issue of FRONT&CENTRE
contains new fiction, book reviews and commentary. FRONT&CENTRE
publishes new short fiction up to 4000 words. Book reviews and
commentary are not being solicited at this time; these are written by FRONT&CENTRE
editors and contributing writers.
All fiction submitted must
be previously unpublished.
We are looking for fiction
set in a realist tone, that concerns the contemporary. We are strictly
non-genre and DO NOT publish science fiction, horror, fantasy or fluff
of any kind. We prefer dirty realism, urban angst, noir and tales of
ordinary woe. Otherwise, thematically, the magazine is wide open.
Quality new fiction is what we want.
All submissions must
include:
* A hard copy of your work
in standard manuscript format (typed and double or one & a half
spaced text).
* An accurate word count
must appear on the story, along with your name, address, telephone
number and email address.
* A reply envelope with
your address and sufficient return postage or International Reply
Coupons for submissions from outside Canada (Americans, Brits, and
RoWers, please take note: your stamps are of no value in Canada, send
IRCs instead). If you do not want the manuscript returned, we will
reply via email if you make this request. Otherwise, if there is no
SAE, you will not receive a reply unless your work is accepted for
publication.
* A brief cover letter that
includes a short biographical note.
Reply time is generally
three-four months, occasionally longer.
Two issues of FRONT&CENTRE
are published each year. We do not stockpile fiction for future issues.
Your work will be read and accepted or rejected for the next available
issue.
Contributors are paid in
copies of the magazine and retain publication rights to their work. If
your work is accepted for publication, we will request a copy of the
story on diskette or electronically. Please do not send a diskette
until such time.
DO NOT submit short fiction
via email. Emailed submissions will be deleted straightaway.
If you have any specific
questions about the magazine not covered by these guidelines, please
write or email.
Sample copies of the
magazine can be ordered for $6.00 (cheque made payable to “M. Firth”).
It is strongly encouraged that you to read an issue before submitting
fiction.
Send all submissions, books
for review, sample orders, subscription orders and complaints to:
